Chinese President’s visit to Egypt strengthens investment opportunities in construction and infrastructure

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Egypt comes at a time of growing economic cooperation between the two countries, with Chinese companies continuing to expand their investments in the Egyptian market, particularly across construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, transport and energy.

These investments are translating into new projects on the ground, including the development of factories and industrial complexes, expansion of industrial and logistics zones, development of new cities and urban communities, and major transport and infrastructure projects. This is creating significant opportunities for construction companies, building materials suppliers, engineering firms and infrastructure providers.

One of the most significant projects is the Central Business District in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, which includes 20 towers, including the Iconic Tower, with an estimated investment of $3 billion. Egypt has also approved a $200 million concessional loan to finance the third phase of the railway project in 10th of Ramadan City, reflecting continued cooperation in transport and infrastructure development.

In the Suez Canal Economic Zone, the Egypt-China TEDA Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone is home to more than 200 industrial, service and logistics projects, with investments approaching $3.8 billion. Plans to expand industrial land and zones are expected to support the development of new projects and increase demand for the infrastructure and services needed to support them.

The energy and technology sectors are also seeing increased Chinese investment in Egypt, with new energy projects alongside the expansion of mobile phone, electronic device and technology component manufacturing. This growth is creating greater demand for specialised facilities, utilities, power networks and digital infrastructure to support production and manufacturing.

Chinese investment is also expanding across automotive, chemical and metal industries, with a growing focus on establishing new factories and production lines, localising manufacturing and transferring technology and expertise.

As economic cooperation between Egypt and China continues to strengthen, this expanding investment pipeline is creating new opportunities for companies across construction, building materials, engineering, utilities, transport, logistics and digital infrastructure to participate in Egypt’s next phase of development.
