A platform that recognizes innovation and project excellence

Big 5 Egypt Impact Awards will honour the best projects, innovations, businesses, teams and individuals in the Egyptian construction industry. They will showcase the growth and achievements of the people and companies who have made all of those projects possible.

The awards are an opportunity for the entire industry to come together. Our independent panel of expert judges will use the awards to honour the work of project owners and contractors, their consultants, as well as architecture practices, facilities management firms, project management firms, interior design firms, and engineering firms.

Our judges will be drawn from the highest levels of the industry, working independently to arrive at decisions based on their years of experience, technical expertise and the quality of your entries.

Big 5 Egypt Impact Awards offer the opportunity to benchmark achievements of sustainability, innovation, project teams, and organisations in front of Egypt’s construction community.

Eligible Entrant Organisations: Project Owners, Main Contractors, Consultants, Engineering Firms, Architecture Firms, Project Management Firms, Interior Design Firms, and *Facilities Management Firms.
*Facilities Management Firms are eligible for: Facility Management Firm of the Year, Sustainable Initiative of the year, Award for Health & Safety, and Innovation of the Year categories.

Director of the Year

This award will recognize and honour exceptional leaders who have made remarkable contributions to the construction industry in Egypt. This category celebrates individuals who have demonstrated outstanding skills, vision, and contributions to the construction sector.

To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Be employed by the company nominating them
  • Be in a construction role, and
  • Be nominated by their employer.

Judges are looking for the person that best demonstrates a positive impact on their peers, and their organisation and will have shown the potential to become an exemplary future leader, evidenced by having the ability to positively impact the behaviour of others.

  • Displays originality, innovation, and excellence in category. Excellence may mean unique and exemplary.
  • Breaking new ground or old barriers.
  • Demonstrated vision and pioneering spirit in the advancement of the industry.
  • Educate, support and encourage successors, colleagues and peers.
  • Demonstrated admirable qualities such as leadership, good interpersonal relationships etc.

Construction Professional of the Year

This category recognizes outstanding individuals (senior managerial roles) in the Egypt construction industry who have made remarkable contributions through their skills, expertise, and dedication.

To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Be employed by the company nominating them
  • Be in a construction role, and
  • Be nominated by their employer.

Judges are looking for the person that best demonstrates a positive impact on their peers, and their organisation and will have shown the potential to become an exemplary future leader, evidenced by having the ability to positively impact the behaviour of others.

Conservation & Heritage Initiative of the Year NEW

This award recognizes, for example,

  • Heritage design and architecture, -heritage structures could include cultural, natural, and mixed projects or buildings.
  • Conservation Management Plans (CMP)
  • New projects that have been conceived for the protection and conservation of the surrounding area.
  • Methods of restoration, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and maintenance of existing historic buildings.

This category is open to any ongoing sustainability-oriented initiative executed in Egypt between Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Innovation of the Year

This award will recognize innovative construction projects, products and solutions in Egypt that lead, change, transform and improve the construction process in a positive way. The winning entry must demonstrate measurements of success and team collaboration. The innovation could be a new process, technology, or creative idea. Entries should focus on at least one example of a specific innovation. The winning entry will be an innovation applied to overcome one or more construction challenges and will involve a demonstrably different solution that leads to better outcomes.

This category is open to companies with an office in Egypt and firms will be assessed for services delivered during the period of Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Judges will assign scores based on how well the submission meets the criteria listed below.

Smart City Initiative of the Year

The award will recognize the initiative (ideas and strategies) making Egypt’s cities more livable, sustainable, and economically viable. The winning initiative will have the biggest positive impact on its citizens –the award is open to initiatives developed in one or more of the following areas: mobility, environment, urban safety and security, or data and technology.

This category is open to any ongoing smart city-oriented initiative executed in Egypt between Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Sustainable Initiative of the Year

This award is open to any initiative with the goal of creating a more environmental, social, and economic impact by promoting and engaging its employees and the community in sustainability. The company should demonstrate how this initiative incorporates reduced energy consumption, use of alternative energy sources, increased recycled component usage, waste reduction measures, reduced water consumption, local sourcing initiatives, and how this has made a positive impact on the industry and the local community.

This category is open to any ongoing sustainability-oriented initiative executed in Egypt between Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Commercial Project of the Year

Judges will look for outstanding commercial developments in Egypt where an innovative approach to the strategy of the development has been taken. The criteria for success are based not only on quality and innovation but also on evidence demonstrating a sensible use of budget while satisfying the client brief.

The project must be completed during the period of Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Eligible project types: Hotels, retail, leisure facilities, mixed-use, office buildings

Community Project of the Year

This category recognizes excellence in community projects that make a clear and positive contribution to the community they serve, whether that is defined by a shared location, shared values, or shared needs.

The project must be completed during the period of Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Eligible project types: Education facilities, places of worship, streetscape, hospitals, museums, parks & theme parks, sports facilities, theatres

Joint submissions from consultants, architects, contractors, engineers, developers, project owners, etc. will be accepted.

Judges will assign scores based on how well the submission meets the criteria listed below.

  • Relationship to surroundings and neighborhood

Infrastructure Project of the Year

An award made for an infrastructure project in Egypt, of any size or type that made an important contribution to its surroundings and demonstrated best construction practice.

The project must be completed during the period of Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Eligible project types: Transport, metro railway, highways, roads, bridges, civil and structural engineering projects, drainage schemes, public realm works and master planning.

Joint submissions from consultants, architects, contractors, engineers, developers, project owners, etc. will be accepted.

This award will recognize the high-quality standards, practices, and excellence in design and installation demonstrated in an MEP project.

Power & Water Project of the Year

Nominations are open to projects that demonstrate a significant contribution to the water and power industry.

The project must be completed during the period of Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Residential Project of the Year

The judges will be looking for an outstanding residential project in Egypt that demonstrates an innovative approach to the overall strategy of the development.

The project must be completed during the period of Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Eligible project types: Single/multiple family homes, apartment complexes, high-rise buildings for the purpose of providing dwellings, retirement homes and apartment buildings.

Joint submissions from consultants, architects, contractors, engineers, developers, project owners, etc. will be accepted.

Retrofit Project of the Year NEW

Open to all building types, situated in Egypt. This award recognizes and celebrates the retrofit of a building that most effectively demonstrates high levels of user satisfaction while delivering outstanding measured building performance - the vital adaptation and repurposing of existing buildings, setting a precedent to inspire the industry’s carbon footprint in the process. Please include evidence of significant energy/water savings, improved IAQ, and contribution to making the building greener.

The project must be completed during the period of Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Eligible entrants: Project owners, building operators, architecture and design firms, main contractors, and project management companies.

Joint submissions from consultants, architects, contractors, engineers, developers, project owners, etc. will be accepted.

Firms will demonstrate great depth and breadth in their work, collaborative environment, and ability to consistently address the future of architecture whilst honouring its traditions.

This award is open to organizations (non-technology providers) that can demonstrate how they have successfully implemented sustainable digital transformation in their business. Entrants must show how they have had a successful impact on the business by focusing on fixing pain points, team collaboration, operational change, and fostering innovation. Examples of improved productivity, digital use cases, and positive impact on client projects and engagement should be provided.

Real Estate Developer of the Year

Judges will be looking for real estate developers with exceptional financial performance and projects which demonstrate innovative design, development concepts, and architectural excellence in external and internal design and functionality. Projects will demonstrate the quality of design, construction, visual appeal, compatibility with neighbouring land uses, and be sensitive to environmental issues. The winner will show how it is successfully driving its vision and mission.

This category is open to companies with an office in Egypt and will be assessed for services delivered during the period of Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Judges will be looking for innovation and consistency in the delivery of outstanding projects on time and to the highest standards. Preference will be given to entrants that provide evidence of innovation, complexity, productivity, and quality as well as how well the submission meets the criteria listed below:

Facilities Management Firm of the Year

This award recognizes and celebrates the achievements of a Facilities Management (FM) firm (operating in Egypt), which delivers outstanding building performance for its clients and has secured a successful portfolio of new business over the last 3 years. Entrants must give evidence of how the business is improving building performance for their clients in terms of user satisfaction and comfort, energy, and carbon, health and well-being, and whole life value. Entrants must also show how they are driving competitive advantage, innovation, and developing their workforce.

This award will recognize partnerships between project stakeholders (owners, architecture firms, contractors, PMCs, engineering firms, technology providers, financial institutions, and legal firms), which demonstrate a collaborative management approach. Entries should deliver clear evidence of alignment of objectives, common culture, team integration, overcoming challenges together, knowledge transfer, and wow-factor successes as a team.

How many award categories can my business enter?

You can enter as many awards categories as you wish (as long as you meet the category criteria), however, please note that awards entrants should only submit 1 award submission per award category
