Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting this evening to review plans for developing Egypt’s iron and steel industry. The meeting was attended by Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, along with the Ministers of Military Production, Electricity and Renewable Energy, Local Development, Finance, Supply and Internal Trade, Public Enterprise, Investment and Foreign Trade, Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the Chairman of the Egyptian Competition Authority, as well as several senior officials.
At the outset, the Prime Minister affirmed that Egypt has adopted a comprehensive ten-year strategy to advance the iron and steel industry. He explained that a specialized committee, comprising various concerned bodies, has developed this strategy following extensive studies and consultations. The goal is to strengthen this vital sector, which serves as a cornerstone for numerous developmental and industrial fields.
Dr. Madbouly highlighted that the strategy aims to position Egypt as a regional hub for the iron and steel industry, capitalizing on the country’s significant capabilities and resources. The plan focuses on integrating the latest global technologies to improve production efficiency, enhance quality standards, and boost the competitiveness of Egyptian products in both regional and international markets, while ensuring sustainable growth.
For his part, Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir reviewed ongoing efforts to support the iron and steel sector and maintain its competitiveness. He also pointed to initiatives aimed at localizing and deepening related feeder industries, noting that outputs from the steel sector serve as inputs for numerous other industries. These efforts, he emphasized, will reinforce Egypt’s industrial base and contribute to achieving the strategic goals of this sector.
